Guidelines for Submission

Thank you for your interest in the American Body Arts Festival. We are happy to consider your artwork for inclusion in the on-site festival gallery and as part of the ABAF 2007 DVD. You need not be present to have your work accepted and shown in the artist’s gallery. It is equally possible to attend the festival and participate fully without submitting work for inclusion.

Artists who plan to both submit work and attend and are interested in speaking about their work or in presenting a workshop should make a note in the box provided in the submission form. Also please list a phone number where organizers may contact you regarding your work or workshop idea.

The American Body Arts festival is interested in showcasing and promoting the work of serious bodypaint artists and other complementary body arts practitioners worldwide, regardless of ability to attend the festival. The ABAF will accept submissions of as few as one image to as many as one hundred images.

Due to the projected image slideshow display format, we are happy to consider large bodies of work from a single artist. The ABAF does reserve the right to edit the number of images selected from any one submission, for any reason.

By entering your submission for inclusion you give the ABAF permission to utilize your images for projected display as well as for reproduction in promotional materials related to the festival. Artwork will be credited to the submitting artist in all cases.

Deadlines
The deadline for workshop and artist presentations is June 1st, 2007. The deadline for artist submissions for inclusion in the Festival Gallery is June 30th, 2007. Pre-registration for festival attendance will be received up until July 5th.

Fees
Festival attendance does not require advance payment. Admission fees are set-rate and are handled on-site by the Brushwood Folklore Center for the Sirius Rising Festival. Attendance to the activities of the ABAF portion of the festival is offered at no additional charge.

There is no fee for submission of artwork. For the introductory year (2007) all fees have been waived.

Image Formatting
You may submit up to 100 images, as photographs/digital image files of your original artwork. We prefer that you save your work using Adobe Photoshop or comparable software application as JPG or PNG files, using the maximum quality setting "12". File size of each image should not exceed 4meg. (Note: If your images are already saved in a lesser quality setting, don't bother to save them again at the higher setting, this won't enhance the image resolution). We will accept images in a variety of formats (jpg, gif, eps, tiff, png, psd, pdf, pic), but please try to send us the highest resolution representations of your work possible.

Credit

All artwork must be your original work. If other artists were involved, please identify them. Please also credit the model and the photographer, as well as any others involved in the creation process. You must have model releases for all photography of artwork that feature models.

Graphics
Official ABAF promotional graphics have been made available for your use. Feel free to use them on your own website. Get more info here.

Content Standards
Art should reflect moderate to high levels of skill and expertise, as well as careful consideration of design and compositional principles. Amateur artists are welcomed and encouraged with the understanding that a general tone of high quality is to be maintained throughout the ABAF collection.

Our aim is to celebrate and promote a positive, life-affirming relationship with the body through art. We welcome artists whose work reflects this orientation.
We will not accept submissions that are overtly pornographic, violent, negative, abusive, or depict illegal acts. We reserve the right to reject submissions for any reason and without explanation.

Awards and Recognition
A panel of judges will choose selections to be awarded "Best of Show", and "Honorable Mention". These awarded pieces will be identified as such during the festival and on the DVD. Everyone whose work is accepted for exhibition will receive a certificate of acceptance as a featured artist in the 2007 ABAF.
